Stern uses several temporary work agencies who employee a largely illegal immigrant work force as their 2nd class of workers. From a current contact who still works in Stern the benefits are actually decreasing as of 2012 and show no sign of improving. These workers tend to be older (40-60) but make up a very small amount of the actual employees. One are employed directly by Stern and make minimum wage with little to no benefits or perks and aren't unionized. It felt like the management preferred having young and attractive women.įrom personal experience they have two different "Class" of workers.
But those poor women, if one so much cleared their throat around management you'd have some guy giving them a good yelling to.ĭuring my time I lost track of the number of good employees they chased off for simply being "Old" despite their experience and work ethic. It was a bit of running joke among the men of the factory, you could literally stand around the entire day drinking coffee without anyone so much as giving you a dirty look. Part of the reason I quit (aside from getting a much better job with benefits) was the horrible treatment management gave out to the actual factory workers who were 90% women (both legal and illegal immigrants). I mean no offense in the slightest but I hope the place has undergone some sort of management shift for the better. I worked in the actual "Factory" section building/moving and generally anything that required lifting or moving.
